Life, Liberty and the pursuit of web surfing!

Hah! I knew it.  Being one of the “tech” people at work has it’s temptations.  When I was an e-commerce specialist researching things for work during the time of the 08 election, at every turn was an “internet trap”.  Headlines, Rss and “up to date polls” were calling to me left and right.  I had the dire need to know what was going on during every minute of the election even at work.  Since my boss was the head TECH guy, I knew there was no way of peaking at the latest election google updates without him knowing.  I would just peak at the newest polls and feel guilty, but I needed to know.  After I made a non work visit to some political blog, I would feel relieved and work harder to catch up lol… I knew that getting my 5 minute “leisure surfing” fix helped me finish my projects and gave me a little piece of mind.  I mean it’s not like I was the tech guy at Intel hosting ever-quest servers during work. So many employers adopt a Nazi-Ish stance when it comes to checking any site that is non work related.  There are entire businesses that exist to stop employees (and block) them from going to non pre-approved sites.  Employers beware,  being a complete internet Nazi might someday backfire, or at least have a little effect on your workers productivity.

Anyway, I was partially right and the study done by “The University of Melbourne” to prove it……..

Apparently 70% of the people polled take part in leisurely surfing and i so happens that the people that partake in moderation are more productive than their non-browsing counterparts.  HAH!!!
